Buying a Farm !

We have been looking at farms for a long time. Our learning curve has been steep, considering we've never lived on one before. There is so much more to consider than living in a subdivision. However, we finally found a 165 acre farm in Virginia that met our vision for our business. We close in September ! The house inspection has been done and the survey is supposed to be completed this week.
This is scary in some ways. The house leaves a lot to be desired. But we had decided that we wanted more land so that we could have a larger herd of cattle. I'm on board, but I have my moments.
We have a barn planned, a pond, and a ton of fencing has to be put up. More of the land has to be put into pasture.
We also have to get our house on the market....so much to do !

Found your blog, not sure how, strangely enough. I see that you and Your husband are OT's. I am a COTA! I assume you are giving up the profession now that you bought a farm. Just curious, what made you decide to get a farm.

Hi Melissa,
We aren't actually giving up our profession, although we would eventually like the farm to be our primary source of income. We will be raising grass fed beef, chicken, pork and turkey. Bringing good, healthy food to people we see as a preventative before we actually see them as a patient. We may also become certified as hippotherapist's.
But our main goal is to bring healthy food to people, in order to prevent disease and disability. Over 2/3rd's of our caseloads are people who are hospitalized because of poor eating habits.
We struggle with that ourselves !!!
